Your first ten minutes after landing

A calm approach to getting mobile data working.

eSIMXplore editorial · Updated 2026-09-13 · 3 min

The short answer

Wait until you can safely check your phone. If you installed your travel eSIM before leaving, open your mobile data settings and confirm which line is selected for data. Follow the roaming setting stated in the eSIM instructions. Check your home SIM settings independently.

Plan around your trip

Give the phone time to find a supported local network. Being connected to an airport Wi-Fi network can make it harder to tell which connection is actually carrying your data. When appropriate, turn Wi-Fi off briefly and open a simple web page to check mobile data.

Check the conditions

If you cannot connect, confirm that the plan covers the country you are in, that its validity has started correctly and that your phone is using the travel line. Review the installation instructions before changing advanced settings. Do not delete the eSIM as a first troubleshooting step: reinstallation may not be available.

Before you decide

Keep your order reference and exact phone model ready when contacting support. Describe whether the phone shows a network name, whether you see a signal and whether the issue affects all apps. Do not send card details, passwords or your installation QR in a public message.

Your next step

Having your accommodation address and onward transport details saved offline makes this process less stressful. Connectivity is part of the trip, not something that should decide what you can do in your first few minutes.
